RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the Cultural Affairs Commission (CAC): (1) Create an Ad Hoc 2028 Olympics Subcommittee; and (2) Assign Commissioners to the Ad Hoc 2028 Olympics Subcommittee for Fiscal Year 2022 - 2023.


BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
At its regular meeting on April 18, 2023, Commissioner O'Carroll requested and received majority consensus from the CAC that an item be placed on the May 16, 2023 meeting agenda pertaining to forming an ad hoc subcommittee for the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics (collectively, "Olympics") which will be held in Los Angeles.
At its regular meeting in July of each year, the CAC typically reviews its subcommittees in light of the City Council adopted budget and work plan for Cultural Affairs for the coming year. Two Commissioners are assigned to two or more of the CAC's subcommittees. At any time within the fiscal year, Subcommittees composed of less than a quorum may be considered and formed to serve a purpose or a specific task.
Subcommittee meetings are held on an as-needed basis, with some subcommittees meeting as frequently as every month and others only once or twice over the course of a year. In general, "ad hoc" subcommittees serve only a limited or single purpose, are not perpetual, and are dissolved when their specific task is completed. Ad hoc subcommittee...
