RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council (1) accept $132,522.72 in 2021 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program funds to for the purchase of replacement fire hose and automated chest compression devices; and (2) approve a budget amendment appropriating the grant funds (requires a four-fifths vote).


BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) administers the AFG program. The purpose of the program is to protect the health and safety of the public and firefighting personnel against fire and fire-related hazards. On December 16, 2021, staff applied for an AFG program grant to replace fire hose (189 lengths of varying sizes) and purchase new automated chest compression devices. On February 6, 2023, the DHS approved the Department's application in full.




FISCAL ANALYSIS

The AFG program is a matching grant program and has a two-year period of performance. The total cost of replacement fire hose and the automated chest compression devices is $145,775. The Federal share awarded to the City is $132,522.72, and the local match is $13,252.28. Funding for the C...
