RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the Equity & Human Relations Advisory Committee (EHRAC) 1) receive an oral report from the "Paper Tigers" Documentary Screening and Community Conversation Ad Hoc Subcommittee on Event Plan; 2) determine next steps, and; 3) provide direction to staff as deemed appropriate.


BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

The "Paper Tigers" Documentary Screening and Community Conversation Ad Hoc Subcommittee is recommending screening for the public the movie "Paper Tigers," a 100-minute documentary by writer/director James Redford, about a year in the life of high school students who are undergoing tremendous stress and who eventually profit greatly from "trauma informed" education, assessment, and intervention. Following the movie screening, the Ad Hoc Subcommittee will host a discussion on childhood trauma, its relationship to equity issues, and provide suggestions to move forward with these critical issues.

The EHRAC is proposing to invite panelists to participate in the event to share reflections about the movie or reflections on a topic related to the movie.
