RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council adopt a resolution approving a Master Agreement with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) to receive grant funds to implement the intersection redesign of Overland Avenue, Ranch Road, and Kelmore Avenue (the "Project"), Caltrans No. ATPL-5240(041).
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
On August 9, 2021 the City Council approved the Project following multiple community meetings and engagement with the School Safety Committee, which is comprised of representatives from the Culver City Unified School District, the City, and the Walk 'n Rollers organization.
The Project is located entirely within the public right-of-way at the five-legged intersection of Overland Avenue, Ranch Road and Kelmore Avenue. This location serves significant volumes of pedestrian and bicycle traffic including school traffic generated by students travelling to/from the nearby El Rincon Elementary School. The intersection redesign will enhance safety and implement other operational improvements by establishing a pedestrian refuge island on the easterly leg to break up the existing 102-foot roadway width, thereby shortening the distance that pedestrians and bicyclists are exposed to...
