RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council approve a purchase order with Hedstrom Environmental to furnish and deliver plastic refuse, recycling and organics containers in an amount not to exceed $ 120,000 annually, including all fees and taxes for three years beginning FY 19/20 through FY 21/22.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The City of Culver City's Environmental Programs & Operations Division, a division of the Public Works Department, provides and services approximately 2500 refuse, recycling and organics containers throughout the City for multi-family and commercial customers. Plastic containers are ideal for handling commercial waste, especially organics waste. The containers are lightweight and stackable which makes the containers easier to maneuver and store. These containers are also quiet, reducing noise levels, easily cleaned, graffiti resistant, rust free and durable. In addition, the containers do not leak liquid waste and leachate. Use of these containers should reduce staff injuries, workers compensation claims and maintenance and replacement costs. The estimated useful life of these containers is approximately eight years.
