RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council approve and authorize the City Manager to obtain competitive proposals for network operation services for the City's Culver Connect fiber network.


BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

In July 2018, Culver City completed construction of a fiber optic network backbone (the "Network") in order to facilitate the delivery of high speed internet access to City businesses, to the City itself for municipal purposes, and to the Culver City Unified School District. The Network is 21.7 routes miles long, consists of 576 strands of fiber, and is entirely underground. The City is currently directing efforts to build laterals to multi-tenant commercial properties in the City. The laterals are being constructed to further advance the operation of the Network and to stimulate economic development. In addition to this Network, the City also has additional fiber infrastructure assets that are used for City Government purposes ("CCGOV") and for CCTV monitoring of major street intersections ("CCTV"). For the purposes of this RFP, CCGOV and CCTV are not a part of the Network.
