RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council hear a presentation about the Los Angeles Clean Tech Incubator and discuss joining LACI.


BACKGROUND/ DISCUSSION

At the October 22, 2018 City Council Meeting, Vice Mayor Sahli-Wells received consensus to invite representatives from the LACI to make a presentation to explain the concept for consideration to join their efforts. LACI is a non-profit organization and the result of the Clean Tech Los Angeles alliance among the Los Angeles Mayor's office, the region's universities, the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation, the Los Angeles Business Council, the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, LADWP and the CRA/LA (Attachment 1). In partnership with the region's educational and research organizations - UCLA, USC, Caltech and Jet Propulsion Laboratory - LACI states that it helps accelerate the commercialization of their clean technologies, in addition to accelerating new products developed by independent entrepreneurs. A list of partners can be found in Attachment 2.
