RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council adopt a resolution approving an encroachment agreement with Southern California Hospital at Culver City for use of the public right-of-way at 3828 Delmas Terrace to accommodate a structural foundation for seismic retrofit purposes.


BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

In order to demonstrate compliance with Senate Bill 1953 (SB-1953), Southern California Hospital located at 3828 Delmas Terrace prepared a seismic evaluation report of their hospital buildings. The report revealed that the Tower Building, located to the west of Delmas Terrace, requires a new concrete structural foundation shear wall to be added along the eastern side of the building. The proposed foundation would begin approximately 281'-1" north of the centerline of Washington Boulevard. Although the proposed new shear wall would be constructed on site and aligned with the property line, part of it is required to encroach seven feet seven inches, for a distance of 47 feet nine inches longitudinally along the public right-of-way of Delmas Terrace.
