RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council approve an extra work change order in the amount of $72,500.00 to the existing contract with Western State Fire Protection Company for the installation of additional smoke detectors at the Veteran's Memorial Auditorium as part of the safety upgrades for the facility (PZ-876).


BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

At its October 24, 2016 meeting, the City Council approved agreements with four different contractors for various aspects of the safety improvements at the Veteran's Memorial Building; LA Pro Point (cleaning of fire curtain and upgrade to stage rigging system), Power Source Systems (new emergency exit signs/lighting, installation of panic hardware on doors, emergency backup generator relocation, and balcony fall protection), 4-Wall Entertainment (theatrical lighting upgrade), and Western State Fire Protection Company (installation of a new fire alarm/monitoring system). The City Council also approved an aggregate amount of $66,945.62 in change order authority for the Public Works Director/City Engineer for this project as a whole.
