RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council award a construction contract to CJ Construction, Inc. (CJ Construction) as the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, in the amount of $334,112.00 for the construction of the Curb, Gutter and Sidewalk Replacement Project, PZ428 (Project) in an amount not-to-exceed $400,934.40 ($334,112 Plus $66,820.40 in contingency authority).


BACKGROUND

The Project proposes to remove and replace approximately 15,000 square feet of sidewalks and drive approaches throughout the City and approximately 900 linear feet of curb and gutter on Overland Avenue. Sidewalk repair locations were collected from various sources including requests by the Public Works Department Maintenance Operations staff and resident referrals. Prioritization of repairs was based on potential safety concerns, severity of uplifts, and general deterioration.

A significant portion of this capital improvement project will include the reconstruction of the curb, gutter, and sidewalk on the east side of Overland Avenue between Braddock Drive and Culver Boulevard due to tree root intrusion. Because the City Arborist has determined that root pr...
