RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council (1) waive formal bidding procedures; and (2) approve a five-year professional services agreement with Dr. David Eisner for the position of Medical Director with the Culver City Fire Department in an amount not-to-exceed $25,000 per year.


BACKGROUND

The Culver City Fire Department has been providing Advanced Life Support (ALS) through its paramedic program since 1973. Culver City's paramedic program delivers high quality patient care and is recognized in Los Angeles County as a progressive Emergency Medical Services (EMS) provider. The Medical Director is a key component in ensuring that the Culver City Fire Department continues to deliver the best quality pre-hospital care.

The Culver City Fire Department created the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Medical Director position in 1998 to fill an urgent need for medical oversight of the Emergency Medical Services program. Dr. David Eisner was selected to provide these services and an Agreement was approved on February 1, 1998.
