RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council authorize the donation of retired Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) equipment to the Oxnard College Regional Fire Academy.


BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

Recently, the Culver City Fire Department (CCFD) replaced 75 SCBA packs, 102 SCBA bottles, 70 SCBA masks, and 64 voice amplifiers through the asset replacement fund. The SCBA equipment has reached its useful life for field use but may still be used for training purposes.

Due to limited funding, regional pre-service fire academies require donations to help equip students in learning about a career with the fire department. The cost of this equipment can be very expensive and carry a financial burden incurred by the various community colleges that have onsite academies. Many members of the CCFD currently work in different capacities within these schools around Southern California. While providing its expertise and donated equipment, the CCFD would continue its reputation of positively influencing the community while further enhancing the students' experience in their pursuit of a career in the fire service.

The Oxnard College Regional Fire Academy is an accredited Regional Training Program (ARTP) as designated by the Office of the State Fire Marshal and is authorized to deliver various courses leading to Fire Fighter certifications, among other certifications. Graduates are employed...
