RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Commission receive and file the PRCS Commission 2023 Meeting Calendar and the Upcoming Agenda Items List, with adjustments, if any.
BACKGROUND
Staff has prepared this report as a standing Agenda Item to give the PRCS Commission Members an opportunity to review the 2023 Meeting Calendar and the Upcoming Agenda Items List, which are both provided as Attachment 1. In addition, should Commissioners wish to schedule a Regular Meeting at a location other than the Mike Balkman Council Chambers at City Hall, the Room Availability for PRCS Commission Meetings at Parks is provided as Attachment 2.
Any adjustments to the Meeting Calendar, including a change to the usual meeting location, and/or the Upcoming Agenda Items List, may be agreed upon by consensus of the Commission. Once consensus has been reached, a motion may be made to receive and file the report.
DISCUSSION
2023 Potential Scheduling Conflicts
PRCS Commission meetings are usually scheduled on the first Tuesday of each month. Staff has updated the Meeting Calendar to include all of the 2023 PRCS Commission meeting dates. In doing so, the following scheduling conflicts were identified:
March 7, 2023 - The City Council will be holding Budget Work Plan Meetings in the Mike Balkman Council Chambers on Monday, March 6, and Tuesday, March 7, 2023. Although the meetings begin at 3:00 PM, they often last until approximately 9:00 PM. The PRCS Department is usually able to schedule the Work Plan presentation for Monday, however, there is always a possibility that it will be held on Tuesday.
April 4, 2023 - PRCS Management staff will be attending the annual California Park and Recreation Society (CPRS) Conference and Expo from April 3 through April 6, 2023. The Conference is being held in San Diego, California.
July 4, 2023 - Independence Day falls on the PRCS Commission’s regular meeting date in 2023. This is a Federal Holiday and City Hall will be closed to commemorate the 4th of July.
2023 Religious Holidays
The following religious holidays fall on or around the PRCS Commission’s regular meeting dates in 2023:
March 7, 2023 - Lailat al Bara'a, a Muslim holiday, will be observed beginning at sunset on Monday, March 6, 2023.
March 7, 2023 - Purim 2023, a Jewish holiday, will begin in the evening of Monday, March 6, 2023 and end in the nightfall of Wednesday March 8, 2023.
March 7, 2023 - Holika Dahan, a Hindu festival, will be observed on this date in 2023.
April 4, 2023 - Passover, a Jewish holiday, will begin in the evening of Tuesday April 4, 2023 and end in the nightfall of Wednesday, April 12, 2023.
October 3, 2023 - Sukkot, a Jewish holiday, will begin in the evening of Saturday September 30, 2023 and end in the nightfall of Friday, October 6, 2023.
