RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Commission schedule a PRCS Commission weeknight tour of Syd Kronenthal Park, Fox Hills Park and Veterans Memorial Park.

BACKGROUND

On September 6, 2022, the PRCS Commission discussed scheduling a 2022 Parks Tour.  The Commission decided to (1) schedule a Saturday visit to Lindberg, Blair Hills and Culver West Alexander Parks on October 22, 2022, with the time to be confirmed at the October 4, 2022, PRCS Commission meeting; and (2) determine a weeknight to visit Syd Kronenthal, Fox Hills and Veterans Memorial Parks at the October 4, 2022, PRCS Commission meeting.  Subsequently, the October 4, 2022, PRCS Commission meeting was cancelled due to a lack of quorum.  Therefore, the start time of the October 22, 2022, tour of Lindberg, Blair Hills and Culver West Alexander Parks was determined by polling the Commissioners.  The Parks Tour began at 10:00 AM and was attended by four of the PRCS Commissioners and PRCS staff.

DISCUSSION

One of the advantages of taking a weeknight tour of the parks is that sports leagues and other users will be out on the ballfields.  This will give Commissioners an opportunity to see how the ballfields are being utilized.  In addition, there should be some evening racket sport court use at the parks that the Commissioners will be visiting.  Staff is recommending a start time of 5:00 PM for the weeknight tour of Syd Kronenthal Park, Fox Hills Park and Veterans Memorial Park.  The date that staff is recommending for the tour is Tuesday, November 15, 2022, since the ballfields will be in use on that night.

The Weeknight Parks Tour will be a Special Meeting of the PRCS Commission which will be noticed and open to the public.  If members of the public wish to attend, they must provide their own transportation. Carpooling is encouraged for all attendees who feel comfortable making such arrangements.  Similar to the October 22, 2022, Parks Tour, staff is requesting that Commission members submit questions that they may have about the Parks via email in advance of the tour date.  Staff will then be prepared to answer these questions during the Weeknight Parks Tour.

FISCAL ANALYSIS

While a weeknight Parks Tour will have an impact on PRCS Department staffing and budgetary resources, it is expected to be nominal.

ATTACHMENTS
