BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
During the fiscal year 2022/2023, the Equity and Human Relations Advisory Committee (EHRAC) voted to hold various community events as part of their fiscal year work plan. One of these events is participation in the worldwide observation of the Transgender Day of Remembrance (TGDOR) on November 21, 2022. During the September 27, 2022 regular meeting, the Committee achieved consensus to agendize an action item to receive and discuss the Transgender Day of Remembrance Ad Hoc Subcommittee’s event program and details.
The Transgender Day of Remembrance (TGDOR) has been observed in 185 cities, including many in the United States. The TGDOR has been observed around the world in more than twenty (20) countries, since 1999, to commemorate the assassinations of Transgender people and to tell their story. The purpose of the TGDOR commemoration is to bring to the attention of the public the discrimination and public violence still being suffered by Transgender people.
The Transgender Day of Remembrance Ad Hoc Subcommittee includes EHRAC Chair Carlos Valverde, and Members Michelle Dennis and Raven Bradley.
