RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council approve and adopt the recommended Civil Discourse Guidelines prepared by the Equity and Human Relations Advisory Committee (EHRAC) for distribution to the public, to City Council and to all City Commissions, Boards and Committees.


BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

On December 4, 2021, the EHRAC held a Civil Discourse Workshop for Committee members, City staff, and members of the public. The Workshop was facilitated by the Institute for Civility in Government (ICG). The purpose of the Workshop was to train participants in Civil Discourse and to create recommended civil discourse guidelines for the City of Culver City.

The EHRAC has prepared recommended Civil Discourse Guidelines from the suggestions provided by both the workshop participants and the recommended guidelines submitted by the Institute for Civility in Government (ICG). The EHRAC approved the draft version of the Civil Discourse Guidelines during the April regular meeting and requested that staff distribute the guidelines to the public to receive public input.
