RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Commission (1) review and finalize the draft memo to the City Council regarding homeless encampments in Culver City's public spaces (Attachment 1); and (2) authorize transmittal of the memo to the City Council.


BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

At each regular Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission meeting, the Commission typically receives and files updates from the members of their Ad Hoc Subcommittees and representative appointees to outside Associations and City Committees. In her role as representative appointee to the Culver City Senior Citizens Association (CCSCA), PRCS Commission Chair Kay Heineman gave an update on April 5, 2022, that included information about concerns related to the homeless encampment on the grounds of the Culver City Senior Center. She indicated that some CCSCA members have been requesting refunds due to uneasiness about the encampment's residents and its proximity to the Senior Center.
