BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Construction began on the Higuera Street Bridge Replacement Project September 2021 and is projected to conclude by the end of 2022. The project includes replacing the old bridge with 4 vehicle lanes, 2 bike lanes, and sidewalks. Recent construction activities include demolition of the outer portions of the bridge, earthwork, and drilling of foundation piles.
The Ballona Creek Bike Path Connectivity to Higuera Street Project consists of construction of a 400 ft long ramp to connect Higuera St to the Ballona Creek Bike Path, as well as retaining walls and landscape/irrigation. The project will start February 2022 or early March.
The Ballona Creek Bike Path is temporarily closed between National Blvd and Duquesne Ave through mid-May 2022 due to slope demolition and earthwork activities.
Staff will provide an overview and update of the projects and answer questions.
FISCAL ANALYSIS
Higuera Street Bridge Replacement Project is funded through Federal Highway Bridge Program funds administered through Caltrans, as well as local matching funds. The cost for construction is $6.4 million.
