RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council conduct informational interviews with applicants to the various Culver City commissions, boards, and committees (CBCs).

BACKGROUND/ DISCUSSION

Each spring, the City opens the application period to fill openings on the City’s commissions, boards, and committees.

At the May 9, 2016 City Council meeting the City Council directed the City Manager to hold a special meeting to provide an interview opportunity for applicants in preparation for consideration of appointments to the open positions at a separate City Council meeting. The interview process was determined to be helpful as part of the appointment process and has been repeated each year.

Interviews of candidates for the openings on commissions will be held first on Monday, June 7, 2021 between 6:00PM and 7:00PM after which interviews for all other committees and boards will occur.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, all meetings will be held virtually via Webex Events and applicants have been provided registration instructions and the procedures in advance at www.culvercity.org/agendas <http://www.culvercity.org/agendas>.

Candidates will be allotted up to three minutes for each interview and have been instructed to be prepared to answer one question as follows:

For first-time applicants: What do you understand the position to entail and what do you hope to accomplish as a commissioner, board or committee member?

For those seeking reappointment: What have you accomplished during your term and what do you hope to accomplish for the upcoming term?

Those unable to attend the June 7, 2021 meeting have been provided an opportunity to provide written responses which will be made available to City Council as correspondence received by 3:00PM on June 7, 2021.

Appointments to CBCs will be considered by City Council at the Regular City Council meeting on Monday, June 14, 2021. Appointees will be required to complete Ethics Training (AB1234 Training), currently scheduled for June 24, 2021 between 6-9PM.

FISCAL ANALYSIS

There is no fiscal impact for the interview process.
