BACKGROUND

The Public Works Department has received community concerns about the operational and safety conditions at the intersection of Lucerne Ave and Ince Blvd, particularly regarding pedestrians crossing the wide northerly intersection leg of Lucerne Ave.

The City proposes to implement a temporary redesign of the intersection that would be in place during a demonstration period. This temporary redesign concept could be implemented quickly and would demonstrate how improvements could enhance traffic safety and operational conditions at the intersection. The demonstration period would provide an opportunity to assess the impact of the redesign and to obtain additional community input. The assessment and community input would then inform the future final re-design and subsequent construction of the intersection.

Proposed changes focus on the northwesterly corner of the intersection and are intended to better align the intersection and provide additional refuge for crossing pedestrians. The new design is expected to enhance safety conditions for all users of the intersection.
