RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Commission schedule a PRCS Commission tour of Culver City parks and facilities.
BACKGROUND
Upon the request of the PRCS Commission, PRCS Department staff members accompany the Commissioners on a tour of Culver City parks and facilities (“Parks Tour”). On behalf of the Commission, staff sends invitations to the Parks Tour to members of the public, City Council members, the City Manager and Culver City School District representatives. During a typical Parks Tour, staff engages in a dialogue with tour participants, takes them to sites of recent and upcoming capital improvement projects and provides information regarding a variety of issues relating to Culver City parks, facilities, programs and services.
DISCUSSION
On April 6, and again on May 4, 2021, PRCS Commissioners indicated that they would like to take a Parks Tour this year. Staff will be available to accompany the Commission on a Parks Tour on any one of the following dates, all of which fall on a Saturday:
• June 12th - This Tour cannot begin until 10:30 AM due to a staff training earlier in the day.
• June 26th - This Tour can begin earlier than 10:30 AM, if desired.
• July 17th - This Tour can begin earlier than 10:30 AM, if desired. PRCS Director Armando Abrego will not be available to attend the Tour on this date.
The parks included in the Proposed 2021 Parks Tour Itinerary (Attachment 1), include:
• Veterans Memorial Park
• Tellefson Park
• Lindberg Park
• El Marino Park
• Fox Hills Park & Fox Hills Parkette
• Syd Kronenthal Park
• Culver City Park
• Coombs Parkette
After receiving input from the Commission Members at this evening’s meeting, Parks Manager / City Landscape Architect Patrick Reynolds will finalize the Parks Tour Itinerary. It will be distributed it to participants before the Parks Tour begins.
For this year’s Parks Tour, the Recreation van will not be used for transportation as in previous years. It is recommended that Commission Members use their own vehicles to participate in the Tour. Carpooling is encouraged for those who feel comfortable sharing a vehicle with others.
FISCAL ANALYSIS
It is anticipated that a one-day Parks Tour will have a minimal impact on PRCS Department staffing and budgetary resources. There are currently sufficient funds for refreshments for the Tour in account 10130100.517000 (PRCS Administration / City Commission Expenses).
