BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The City of Culver City has secured Federal Funds to replace shelters, benches, and trash cans (furniture) at our most used bus stops within the city limits. Currently there are 430 bus stops in its service area, of which 184 bus stops are within the Culver City limits. The goal of this project is to replace all bus stop furniture within Culver City by the end of 2023 with a new modern look that embraces the past and looks towards a mobility future. Bus stops furniture and amenities will support our existing CityBus riders and also support those who utilize other mobility options, such as pedestrian walking, scooter share and bike share.
As of the beginning of the FY21, 39 of Culver City bus stops have new furniture and require no upgrades, 98 have the old furniture to be replaced and 47 have no furniture that will be considered for future installs. The project also includes the redrafting or our bus stop guidelines into a new “mobility stop guideline” and improvements at the Culver City E-line station “Reimagining Expo” by the end of the calendar year 2023.
Phase II of the bus stop replacement project is underway and on track with updating 50 stops by the end of the fiscal year 2021 (6/30/21). Staff will be presenting an update to this phase, along with a plan for addressing the remaining bus stops in the upcoming fiscal year. Additionally, staff will be presenting concepts for a new single poled shelter to be used in areas where sidewalks are less than 10’ and cannot accommodate a traditional shelter due to ADA regulations.
