RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council (1) discuss a Letter of Support for the “Venice Boulevard for All” project; and (2) provide direction to the City Manager as deemed appropriate.
BACKGROUND
On April 12, 2021, Michael Schneider from “Streets for All” provided a presentation to the City Council regarding the “Venice Boulevard for All” initiative. Mayor Fisch received City Council consensus to join neighbors in signing a letter of support for the project to be brought back for approval at the April 26, 2021 City Council meeting.
About “Venice Boulevard for All” Project
The website for “Venice Boulevard for All”, states:
Venice Boulevard was formerly a state highway (CA-187) and administered by Caltrans. Recently, the stretch between Lincoln Boulevard and Cadillac Avenue (near Fairfax Avenue) was returned to the City of Los Angeles, and the City is now working on a plan to bring the road up to a “good state of repair.” Along with the street itself, Caltrans gave the City $14M to improve this stretch of Venice Boulevard. Project supporters want the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) along with neighboring Los Angeles City Councilmembers to implement the City’s own Mobility Plan for this stretch of Venice Blvd. Once repaved, it could be many decades before the street is considered for improvements again. Supporters state, “We can’t take the risk that they just repave the street and put it back the way it is now. We need to seize this opportunity to make sure L.A. follows its own Mobility Plan and implements safe, efficient infrastructure for bus riders, pedestrians, drivers, and cyclists.”
DISCUSSION
The City Council is requested to consider a letter of support for the “Venice Boulevard for All” project (Attachment 1).
FISCAL ANALYSIS
Discussion and direction regarding this matter does not create a fiscal impact to the City.
