RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC) receive presentations on and discuss existing transportation and mobility conditions in Culver City.

BACKGROUND

The GPAC has received presentations on Culver City’s existing conditions, issues, and opportunities on various topics related to the General Plan Update (GPU), including the following:

Equity, community safety, and policing during two special meetings: one on June 30, 2020 and the other on September 17, 2020

Socioeconomic and market/economic conditions and the arts, culture, and creative economy during a regular meeting on July 9, 2020

Housing during a special meeting on August 13, 2020

Land use and community design during a special meeting on August 13, 2020, a regular meeting on September 10, 2020, and a special meeting on October 8, 2020

DISCUSSION

Nelson\Nygaard, the multimodal transportation subconsultant for the GPU, will give a short presentation summarizing key issues and opportunities identified in the existing conditions analysis related to transportation and mobility in Culver City and discuss the following topics:

                     Key legislation

                     Implementation of Complete Streets

                     Transit speed and reliability

Intersection of mobility and urban design

Transportation’s impacts on public health and safety

Actions to reduce vehicle trips and greenhouse gas emissions

Most of the meeting will be spent in GPAC discussion. To prepare for the meeting’s discussion, please think about the following questions:

What are the most critical outcomes related to transportation and mobility for the General Plan?

What does equitable transportation mean to you?

How important is it to you that future mobility is designed around jobs and housing growth in the City?

Where should the City guide new transportation investment to support the mobility needs of current and future residents?

What types of transportation trends and mobility options should the City be prepared to accommodate in the future? Where?

Please refer to Attachment 1 for more information.
