RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council adopt a Resolution terminating the Local Emergency due to civil unrest and violence after the tragic death of George Floyd, proclaimed on May 30, 2020 by the Director of Emergency Services of the City of Culver City, California.


BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

Under Culver City Municipal Code (CCMC) Section 3.09.020 and California Government Code Section 8630, the City Manager, as the Director of Emergency Services "(Director of Emergency Services"), may proclaim a Local Emergency if the City Council is not in session. On Saturday May 30, 2020, following the tragic death of George Floyd on May 25, 2020 in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the hands of an officer of the Minneapolis Police Department, and the civil unrest and violence that erupted over the following days, the Director of Emergency Services proclaimed the existence of a Local Emergency in Culver City.
