RECOMMENDATION

 

Staff recommend the Committee discuss upcoming Finance Advisory Committee vacancies and the status of recruitment.

 

 

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

 

The Finance Advisory Committee is composed of up to nine (9) members appointed by the City Council, consisting of: up to three (3) Culver City residents, up to three (3) members of the Culver City business community, up to two (2) labor representatives, and up to one (1) representative of the Culver City Unified School District (CCUSD).

 

a.                     The Resident Members (Seats 1, 2 and 3) shall be qualified electors of the City.

 

b.                     The Business Community Members (Seats 4, 5 and 6) shall own or be a partner, officer, or manager of a duly licensed business located within the City limits.

 

c.                     The Labor Representatives shall consist of one member representing the three non-management bargaining groups (Seat 7) and one member representing one of the three management bargaining groups (Seat 8).

 

d.                     The representative of CCUSD (Seat 9) shall be appointed by the CCUSD Board of Education. The appointee shall not be an elected member of the CCUSD Board. The CCUSD Board may delegate the appointment to the CCUSD Superintendent. The CCUSD representative appointment shall be subject to final approval of the City Council.

 

On April 2nd, the City Clerk’s Office opened the application period for Culver City Commission, Board and Committee Appointments.  The City Council annually considers appointments to the open positions with an application and interview process to fill upcoming seat vacancies. 

 

Upcoming Seat Vacancies for the Finance Advisory Committee currently underway for recruitment include Seat Nos. 1, 2, 4 and 5 with terms ending June 30, 2020. Resident Seats 1 and 2 are currently represented by 2nd Term Resident Members Crystal Alexander and Alejandro Lara, who have served since the Committee’s inception.  Business Community Member Seats 4 and 5 and represented by Vice Chair Darrel Menthe and Member Keith Jones, both of whom are 1st Term Members and are eligible to apply for reappointment. 

 

Additionally, the Non-Management Labor Representative (Seat 7) is eligible for reappointment based upon designation from the recommending bodies. Chair Jane Leonard has issued notification that she will not be continuing as the Management Labor Representative. In turn, Seat 8 will require a representative designation from its recommending bodies. The CCUSD Representative (Seat 9) is appointed by the Superintendent.  All Representative Appointments (Seats 7,8 and 9) are subject to final City Council approval.

 

The application period closed on May 18, 2020 with applicant interviews held at the June 1st City Council Meetings.  Appointments are anticipated to be included on the June 8, 2020 City Council Meeting agenda. 

 

At the direction of the Committee, this item is being continued to provide a status update of applicants as well as to follow-up on a FAC member appointment to the Economic Recovery Task Force (ERTF).
