RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC) 1) review community engagement to date; and 2) draft visioning themes and guiding principles, identify General Plan outcomes, and participate in an idea mapping exercise.

DISCUSSION

The meeting will start with a brief “icebreaker” activity.

The Committee will receive a presentation on community engagement conducted to date and upcoming engagement events. The presentation will highlight feedback received at pop-up events and the February 8 Community Visioning Festival.

The Committee will be led in an exercise and break out into small groups to draft high-level visioning themes and related guiding principles. Members will report out after the exercise to inform a discussion. Discussion questions include:

What are the key, high-level visioning themes from the community engagement to date? What is missing that needs to be addressed?

What are the guiding principles that support each theme?

Again, in small groups, Members will use the visioning themes and guiding principles as a guide to identify key General Plan outcomes and discuss indicators to track progress. Discussion questions include:

What are the most critical outcomes of the General Plan?

What indicators can be used to track progress towards these outcomes?

Next, Members will complete an idea mapping exercise, which was also conducted at the February 8, 2020 Community Visioning Festival. Further details of the meeting’s activities are outlined in Attachment 1.
