RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council approve a budget amendment to record the revenue of $254,338 and appropriation of $199,416 for the Youth Reinvestment Grant Program (a budget amendment requires a four-fifths vote).


BACKGROUND

The Youth Reinvestment Grant Program was established in the 2018 State Budget Act (Senate Bill 840, Chapter 29, Statutes of 2018) and the related trailer bill (Assembly Bill 1812, Chapter 36, Statues of 2018) and provides $36.2 million in grant funding.

Eligible applicants for the Youth Reinvestment Grant (YRG) Program are California cities and counties. In February 2019, the Subcommittee and City staff were informed about a grant opportunity being offered by the Board of State and Community Corrections. The City submitted a proposal in April 2019. Staff was informed in June 2019 that Culver City has been selected and awarded a grant amount of $763,014. On July 8th, 2019, Council adopted a resolution approving the City's participation in the YRG Program.
