RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Commission (1) review the Fiscal Year 2019/2020 Meeting Calendar and make adjustments, if necessary; and, (2) discuss scheduling a 2019 PRCS Commission Tour of Culver City Parks and Facilities.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
Review of the Fiscal Year 2019/2020 Meeting Calendar
PRCS Commission meetings are regularly scheduled on the first Tuesday of the month, at 7:00 p.m. in the Mike Balkman Council Chambers at City Hall. The meeting calendar for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2019/2020 is as follows:
– August 6, 2019
– September 3, 2019 (Note: Staff has been advised by the City Clerk’s Office that the City Council will most likely be using both the Council Chambers and the Patacchia Conference Room on this date.)
– October 1, 2019
– November 5, 2019
– December 3, 2019
– January 7, 2020
– February 4, 2020
– March 3, 2020
– April 7, 2020
– May 5, 2020
– June 2, 2020
If any Member of the Commission recognizes that they may have a scheduling conflict on one or more of the above dates, the meeting schedule may be adjusted at this time or at some point in the future.
Scheduling a PRCS Commission Tour of Culver City Parks and Facilities
On July 17, 2018, PRCS Director Corey Lakin, Parks Manager/City Landscape Architect Patrick Reynolds and PRCS Senior Management Analyst Patricia Mooney accompanied all five Members of the PRCS Commission on a tour of Culver City parks and facilities (“Parks Tour”). Members of the City Council, the Culver City Unified School District (CCUSD) Superintendent and the Members of the CCUSD Board of Education were also invited to attend. Then Vice Mayor of the City Council of the City of Culver City, Meghan Sahli-Wells participated in the Tour. Tour participants visited and discussed the following Parks:
• Veterans Memorial Park and the facilities therein, including the Veterans Memorial Building, the Plunge and the Teen Center
• Tellefson Park
• Culver West Alexander Park
• El Marino Park
• Blanco Park
• Culver City Park
• Blair Hills Park
On October 2, 2018, all five PRCS Commissioners were present at a second Parks Tour to visit and discuss:
• The Culver City Senor Center
• Carlson Park
• Lindberg Park
• Fox Hills Park and Fox Hills Mini-Park
At the May 7, 2019 meeting, the Commission requested that a discussion regarding scheduling a 2019 Tour of Culver City Parks and Facilities be added to a future Meeting Agenda. This Agenda Item has been prepared to give the Commission the opportunity to hold this discussion.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact associated with the discussion of this Agenda Item.
