RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Commission tour those Culver City parks and facilities that were not visited during the July 17, 2018 Parks Tour.

BACKGROUND / DISCUSSION

On July 17, 2018, PRCS Director Corey Lakin, Parks Manager/City Landscape Architect Patrick Reynolds and PRCS Senior Management Analyst Patricia Mooney accompanied the members of the PRCS Commission on a tour of Culver City parks and facilities (Parks Tour Part I).  Members of the City Council, the Culver City Unified School District (CCUSD) Superintendent and the Members of the CCUSD Board of Education were also invited to attend.  Vice Mayor of the City Council of the City of Culver City, Meghan Sahli-Wells participated in the Tour.

The Park Tour began at 3:24 PM after the Commission had briefly conducted other business in the Kaizuka Room at the Veterans Memorial Building, 4117 Overland Avenue, Culver City, CA 90230.  There was a full itinerary, however, due to time constraints, Tour participants were only able to view and discuss the following Parks:

ü                     Veterans Memorial Park and the facilities therein, including the Veterans Memorial Building, the Plunge and the Teen Center

ü                     Tellefson Park

ü                     Culver West Alexander Park

ü                     El Marino Park

ü                     Blanco Park

ü                     Culver City Park

ü                     Blair Hills Park

Parks Tour Part II is being conducted so that those locations that were not visited during the July 17, 2018 Park Tour can be toured.  Once again, City Council Members, the Culver City Unified School District (CCUSD) Superintendent and the Members of the CCUSD Board of Education have been invited to attend.  The Parks Tour Part II itinerary includes (as time permits):

o                     The Culver City Senor Center

o                     Carlson Park

o                     Lindberg Park

o                     Fox Hills Park and Fox Hills Mini-Park

o                     Syd Kronenthal Park

Parks Tour Part II will begin in the Patacchia Conference Room at City Hall, 9770 Culver Boulevard, Culver City, CA 90232, at 4:00 PM.

The map of Culver City Parks and Facilities that appears on page 20 of the Summer 2018 edition of Culver City Living has been provided as Attachment 1.  A City van is being provided for transportation and, if necessary, additional vehicles will also utilized for the Parks Tour.  Director Lakin and Parks Manager Reynolds will take tour participants to sites of recent and upcoming capital improvement projects, answer questions, and provide information regarding a variety of issues relating to Culver City parks and facilities.

FISCAL ANALYSIS

It is anticipated that Parks Tour Part II will have a minimal impact on PRCS Department staffing and budgetary resources.
