RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the Civil Service Commission approve the revised classification specification for Senior Building and Safety Inspector.


BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

The Community Development Department is responsible for coordinating and managing new development and redevelopment of the City according to adopted plans. To achieve these ends, the department is comprised of the Administration, Building Safety, Planning, Enforcement Services, Economic Development and Housing Divisions.

The Senior Building and Safety Inspector classification is assigned to the Building Safety Division and reports directly to the Building Official. This classification is responsible for supervising and participating in the work of the Building Inspectors, which includes enforcement of building, electrical, plumbing, heating, refrigeration, and housing codes and laws.

In 2016, the City retained Matrix Consulting Services to conduct a comprehensive review of the City's development services and provide recommendations to make the process more efficient.
