RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Commission (1) select one or more dates for the 2018 Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission Tour of Culver City Parks and Facilities (“Parks Tour”); and, (2) discuss the Parks Tour itinerary.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
During past discussions of the Annual Parks Tour, PRCS Director Corey Lakin has recommended to the Commission that the Parks Tour take place in Summer months so that it can be scheduled in the early evening during one or more Commission meetings. There was consensus among the Commissioners that this is something that they are willing to try. In previous years, the Parks Tour was held on a Saturday and/or a Sunday during the Fall. It seems that such scheduling is no longer optimal as there has been a dip in attendance recently.
City Council Members, the City Manager and Culver City School District representatives are invited to join the Commission on these tours. On behalf of the Commission, staff will invite all of these parties again this year. The purpose of the Parks Tour is to familiarize appointed and elected officials with the public parks. During a typical Parks Tour, staff engages in a dialogue with tour participants, takes them to sites of recent and upcoming capital improvement projects and provides information regarding a variety of issues relating to Culver City parks and facilities.
To facilitate this evening’s discussion, page 24 of the Spring 2018 Culver City Living brochure, “Park and Facility Information” is provided as Attachment 1. For reference, a 2018 calendar is provided as Attachment 2.
FISCAL ANALYSIS
It is anticipated that the Parks Tour(s) will have a minimal impact on PRCS Department staffing and budgetary resources.
