RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends the City Council approve an agreement with Brightview Landscape Services in an amount not-to-exceed $34,105 for landscape/paving services in Media Park and at Fire Station No. 1.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:

The City has recently removed vegetation and developed a new landscape/paving plan that is more open, transparent and drought tolerant in Media Park in order to address public health and safety issues (Attachment 1).   The paving plan includes replacement of the existing concrete entry with permeable pavers to mitigate drainage/flooding issues and increase clearance beneath the historic barn doors.

The front setback of Fire Station No. 1 was landscaped when the building was constructed, but has become barren over time.  Staff is proposing to replace the landscape with new drought tolerant material.  The work will be performed by Marina Landscape in accordance with its existing Parks Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) contract.

PRCS staff requested proposals from four firms to complete the new landscape/paving work at Media Park.  Two firms responded, Brightview Landscape Services, formerly Marina Landscape Services (Attachment 2) and Golden Gate Construction (Attachment 3).  Both firms have worked in Culver City and have provided satisfactory service on preceding projects. As their previous performance has been similar, it is recommended that the project be awarded to Brightview Landscape Services given their competitive price.

FISCAL ANALYSIS:

Landscape/paving work at Media Park (near the Ivy Substation) will cost $29,105 and PRCS estimates the landscape work at Fire Station No. 1 will cost approximately $5,000.  Funds have been allocated in fund 10150120.619800 for these projects.
