RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the addition of a seat to the City of Culver City’s Marijuana Task Force for a member to be appointed by the Culver City Disability Advisory Committee.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
On February 27, 2017, the City Council created the Marijuana Task Force (MTF). The purpose of the MTF is to develop a recommended plan, for consideration by the City Council, to address local regulation of recreational and/or medical marijuana. The City Council approved formation of the Task Force with the following members, representing a broad cross-section of Culver City community leaders and City staff: City Councilmembers (2), Planning Commissioner (1), Finance Advisory Committee member (1), City Manager representative (1), City Attorney representative (1), Police Department representative (1), Fire Department representative (1), Community Development representative (1-3; Planning, Economic Development and Enforcement Services Divisions), Finance Department representative (1), and Public Works representative (1).
At its June 3, 2017 meeting, the MTF discussed its desire to get input and perspective on the Task Force from the disabled community, and it requested that the City Council agendize the addition of a seat to the MTF of a member appointed by the Culver City Disability Advisory Committee (DAC). The appointee could either be a member of the DAC or a non-member who the DAC believes would make a suitable representative. At the June 5, 2017 meeting of the City Council, Councilmember Meghan Sahli-Wells requested that the City Council agendize this item. If approved by the City Council, the DAC would select its appointee at a future meeting.
