RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council conduct informational interviews with applicants to the various Culver City commissions, committees and boards (CCBs).

BACKGROUND/ DISCUSSION

Each spring, the City opens the application period to fill openings on the City’s commissions, committees, and boards.

At the May 9, 2016 City Council meeting the City Council directed the City Manager to hold a special meeting to provide an interview opportunity for applicants in preparation for consideration of appointments to the open positions at a separate City Council meeting.

The interview process was determined to be helpful as part of the appointment process and is being repeated again for 2017.

Interviews of candidates for the openings on commissions will occur on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 between 7:00PM and 8:30PM after which interviews for all other bodies will occur.

Candidates have been requested to be prepared to answer one question as follows:

For first-time applicants: What do you understand the position to entail and what do you hope to accomplish as a commissioner or committee or board member?

For those seeking reappointment: What have you accomplished during your term and what do you hope to accomplish for the upcoming term?

Those unable to attend the June 6, 2017 meeting have been provided an opportunity to provide written responses which will be made available to City Council as correspondence received by 4:00PM on June 6, 2017.

Candidates will be allotted three minutes or less each for the interview.

Appointments to CCBs will be considered by City Council at the Regular City Council meeting on Monday, June 12, 2017. Appointees will be required to complete Ethics Training (AB1234 Training) on June 29, 2017 between 6-9PM.
