RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) make a motion supporting the installation of bike lanes on Green Valley Circle and Buckingham Parkway.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The 2010 Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan proposes bike lanes on Green Valley Circle, Buckingham Parkway, and Hannum Avenue in the Fox Hills neighborhood. Recently, residents have requested traffic calming measures to make the community more walkable and bikeable. In response, the Public Works Department evaluated a variety of potential measures, including crosswalks, bike lanes, and speed feedback signs. Unfortunately, there is not enough pedestrian activity at this time to satisfy the warrants for the requested crosswalks. However, the remainder of the traffic calming measures were considered feasible. The consultant has prepared the attached restriping plans that include new buffered bike lanes on Green Valley Circle and Buckingham. Although no new crosswalks would be added, the existing crosswalks would be restriped as high-visibility crosswalks. The project would involve a lane reduction on Green Valley Circle from Bristol Parkway to Buckingham Parkway.
