RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council approve a purchase order with Hedstrom Environmental to furnish and deliver three-yard, plastic refuse, recycling and organics containers in an amount not-to-exceed $ 58,719.00, including all fees and taxes.


BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

Environmental Programs & Operations Division provides and services approximately 2,500 refuse, recycling and organics containers throughout the City for multi-family and commercial customers. Plastic containers are ideal for handling commercial waste, especially food/organics waste. The containers are lightweight and stackable which makes the containers easier to maneuver and store. These containers are also quiet, reducing noise levels, easily cleaned, graffiti resistant, essentially leak proof and rust free and durable. Use of these containers should reduce staff injuries, worker compensation claims, maintenance and replacement costs as well as environmental contamination from leakage. The estimated useful life of these containers is approximately eight years.
