RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the Cultural Affairs Foundation Board (“Board”) consider the information provided on the ‘1988’ series and make a recommendation on how the Board may provide support.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
At the January 9, 2017 City Council meeting, the City Council considered this item with a recommendation made by the Cultural Affairs Commission (“CAC”) at a Special Meeting on December 13, 2016. The Council passed a motion to support the ‘1988’ series with $63,854 from the Cultural Trust Fund. At both the CAC and City Council meetings, there was discussion regarding the potential role of the Cultural Affairs Foundation (“CAF”) in supporting this event. The CAC passed a motion that any resources available through the CAF and other sponsorship opportunities be used to offset the total paid out by the Cultural Trust Fund.
The $2,500 in sponsorship already raised by the series’ producer, Marla Koosed, has been paid to the CAF and a check in that amount was disbursed to Ms. Koosed as outlined in her contract with the City. This $2,500 supplements the amount paid for by the Cultural Trust Fund (the project total is $66,354.00).
Ms. Koosed has expressed a desire to pursue additional sponsorship opportunities and/or ticket sales for two of the performances which would then be used to reduce the total cost to the City.
The January 9, 2017 City Council staff report is attached hereto. There are few minor changes to what is included in that report and in the associated materials, but these documents should provide a comprehensive overview of the series. Ms. Koosed will be at the meeting on March 15, 2017 to address questions.
