RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager or Designee to submit a claim to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) for Transportation Development Act (TDA) funds for FY16-17.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The State Transportation Development Act (TDA), as amended by the Mills-Alquist-Deddeh Act (Public Utilities Code Section 99200 et seq.) provides for the allocation of funds from two funding sources:
1. Local Transportation Fund (LTF) for use by eligible claimants for various transportation purposes. These funds are derived from a 1/4 cent of the general sales tax collected statewide, and are identified for the development and support of public transportation needs that exist in California and are allocated to areas of each county based on population, taxable sales and transit performance; and
2. State Transit Assistance funds (STA), which is derived from the statewide sales tax on diesel fuel.
