RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the Finance Advisory Committee discuss and make a recommendation for FAC Representative(s) to Task Force(s), to be transmitted to the City Council for approval and appointment.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

Over the course of the last several weeks, the City Council has been in discussion on several major topics in line with the FAC Work Plan items.

On January 25, 2017, the City Council and Planning Commission held discussions to receive City Council direction regarding banning or regulating short-term rentals in residential zone districts. An outcome of the Joint Meeting was to establish a Task Force to further study this issue. The City Council will consider appointments to the Short-Term Rental Task Force at a future meeting date and has requested representation from the FAC Short-Term Rentals and Economic Development Initiatives Subcommittees to this newly established body.

On February 13, 2017, the City Council will be considering options available to the City under the 2015 Medical Cannabis Regulation and Safety Act (MCRSA) and the 2016 Adult Use of Marijuana Act (AUMA), and direct the City Manager to take action as deemed appropriate. Should the discussion of the City Council lead to the creation of an additional task force, the FAC may seek to further discuss and make a recommendation from its body for representation.
