RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council approve an agreement with McMurray Stern for the purchase and installation of Police Department weapon storage lockers and weapons racks in an amount not-to-exceed $55,865.45.


BACKGROUND

In order to improve its ability to respond quickly and appropriately to critical incidents, the Police Department has implemented a new rifle program. As part of the program, all Police Officers and Sergeants will be issued a rifle for field use. Police Department staff worked with the Finance Department and conducted an open and competitive Request for Bids (#1608) process for the purchase of rifles. Several bids were received and Council approved a purchase order for the purchase of the rifles on November 14, 2016.

The Department intends on placing lockable rifle cabinets in strategic locations throughout the department. This will allow Officers and Sergeants working in a non-field capacity to safely store their rifles, and still have direct access to them in the event that they are required to rapidly respond to a critical incident in the field.
