RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the City Council consider a Resolution condemning violence and hate speech, expressing solidarity with Muslims and all those targeted for their ethnicity, race, religion, or sexual orientation.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

At the September 24, 2016 City Council Meeting Council Member Sahli-Wells received consensus to agendize consideration of a Resolution against hate and anti-Muslim bigotry; she noted support from the mosque; and a suggestion to add LGBT violence to the Resolution.  Mayor Clarke felt that it would be good to go on record supporting the Resolution and he indicated that additional groups could be added to the Resolution.

The proposed Resolution, as reviewed by Mayor Clarke and Council Member Sahli-Wells, is attached for City Council’s consideration.

FISCAL ANALYSIS

There is no fiscal impact for the City Council to adopt the Resolution.

ATTACHMENTS
