RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the City Council, (1) adopt a resolution, accepting grant funds in the amount of $200,000 from the State of California, Department of Parks and Recreation for the Hetzler Road Pedestrian Trail Improvements Project (Project), and (2) approve a budget amendment to appropriate $200,000 in grant funds.

A BUDGET AMENDMENT REQUIRES A FOUR-FIFTHS VOTE


BACKGROUND

The Project provides a separate pedestrian walking and jogging trail approximately 10 feet wide and 1500 feet long. The trail starts near Jefferson Boulevard and terminates at a point beyond the last residential access from Hetzler Road. Construction of the concrete trail will include retaining walls to support the adjacent hillside, signage and associated drainage improvements. The purpose of the Project is to prevent pedestrians and joggers from using the Hetzler Road roadway surface which is intended primarily for vehicular traffic.
