RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council appoint Robyn Tenensap to the vacant Disability Representative Resident seat on the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) is a new committee comprised of nine members to provide input and participate in planning for City bicycle and pedestrian projects. The BPAC is intended to serve as another vehicle for the public to provide input and to help in the effort of keeping the community engaged and informed of currently budgeted and future bicycle and pedestrian projects.

Along with notices for other commission vacancies, beginning on April 26, 2016 the City Clerk’s Office posted the following items on the City’s website: an online application using the Granicus Boards and Commission software system; the advertisement of the seats available on the home page of the City’s website; and a link to the commissions, committees and boards (“CCBs”) informational pages. Advertisements were published on four occasions in the Culver City News and e-mail notices were sent through GovDelivery.

On June 13, 2016, the City Council appointed five members to the BPAC. The BPAC consists of the following members: 3 Members-at-Large Residents, 1 Senior Citizen Resident, 1 Disability Representative Resident, 1 Local Business Owner, 1 Culver City Unified School District Representative (appointed by CCUSD), 1 Culver City High School Student (selected by CCUSD), and 1 Chamber of Commerce Representative (selected by the Chamber).

There were no applicants for the Disability Representative Resident. On August 11, 2016, Public Works staff attended a Disability Advisory Committee meeting to advertise the remaining vacancy on BPAC. The Disability Advisory Committee nominated one of their members, Robyn Tenensap, to serve as the Disability Representative Resident on BPAC. Staff has confirmed that Ms. Tenensap also meets the eligibility requirements for BPAC. This appointment requires City Council approval.
