RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the Disability Advisory Committee (DAC) (1) consider forming a DAC "People-First Language, Disability Etiquette, and ADA Accessibility Training for Staff" Ad Hoc Subcommittee; and (2) if desired, appoint up to four committee members to the newly formed ad hoc subcommittee.


BACKGROUND

To increase the number of City of Culver City staff trained in the areas of people-first language, disability etiquette, and ADA accessibility, DAC, as part of their last three Scheduled Activities Plans, has set a goal of "develop[ing] a proposal for staff training on people-first language, disability etiquette, and ADA accessibility." Though City staff do not currently receive regular training in these areas through the Human Resources Department, other Departments, such as Parks, Recreation, and Community Services (PRCS), have provided similar training opportunities via outside presenters.
