Fulwood (06/04/08) RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that City Council consider the formation of a Culver City Youth Advisory Committee (CCYAC). BACKGROUND: Over the past several years City Council has expressed an interest in getting Culver City youth more involved in local government. For example in 2004 the Student Shadowing Program was implemented as a collaborative effort between Culver City High School and the City of Culver City. The purpose of the program was to familiarize youth with city government by assigning a minimum of two students per Councilmember to shadow the Councilmembers as they performed their official duties. Results of the program were mixed with some students showing great enthusiasm and commitment and others losing interest and dropping out of the program. The program has since been dissolved and has not been reinstated. In considering the appropriate structure and function of the Youth Shadowing Program staff also did research on Youth Commissions/Councils in 2004.
