PROCLAMATION
FIRE PREVENTION WEEK
OCTOBER 9-15, 2005
WHEREAS, the week of October 9-15, 2005 is designated as Fire Prevention Week throughout the United States to remind
all citizens of fire and safety hazards; and
WHEREAS, safety precautions and preventative measures including working smoke alarms on every level of a home, a fire
escape plan and regular fire drills are essential for every household and are important to citizens and to local firefighters who risk their
lives with every response to fire; and
WHEREAS, Culver City is joining the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) and public safety efforts of fire departments,
schools, and other safety advocates in teaching lifesaving messages through this year’s theme of “Use Candles with Care,” as an
important reminder for all citizens of Culver City; and
WHEREAS, the Culver City Fire Department will participate in community events including the Farmer’s Market on
Tuesday, October 11
th
from 3-7 p.m. to reinforce this year’s message and calls upon the people of Culver City to heed the advice to
treat any open flame with respect whether using candles for romantic dinners, atmosphere or celebrations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Culver City, California hereby proclaims the
week of October 9-15, 2005, as “Fire Prevention Week” and urges all residents to participate in the programs of the Fire Department
in its endeavor to acquaint the public in fire preventative measures. We encourage residents to follow this year’s message “Use
Candles with Care” ,be proactive in preventing fires and be equipped with the knowledge to protect themselves if a fire strikes, so that
they may be spared unnecessary loss of life or property by fire.
