Proclamation recognizing November 11, 2005 as a day of remembrance for all those who have served in the Armed Forces.

P R O C L A M A T I O N
VETERANS DAY
WHEREAS, November 11
th
was declared as Armistice Day in 1918 to observe the end of World War I and, in 1954,
Congress established Veterans Day to be observed on the same day to honor all veterans of the Armed Forces; and
WHEREAS, citizens of Culver City have participated as uniformed service members in all conflicts involving our Armed
Services from World War I through Operation Freedom; and
WHEREAS, citizens of Culver City also served as uniformed service members in our Armed Services during time of peace;
and
WHEREAS, all veterans who have performed service during time of peace or conflict sacrificed a portion of their productive
lives to the service of their country and contributed to our continued freedom and well-being; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Culver City owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to all the courageous men and women who
willingly served their country and sacrificed their lives to preserve our ideals and the American way of life.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Culver City, hereby proclaims Friday,
November 11, 2005, Veterans Day, as a day of remembrance by all Culver City residents, and recommends that we pause to honor and
give thanks to those who have served, died or remain missing-in-action from past conflicts and continue to support all Americans
serving in today’s Armed Forces.
