Nachbar (08/09/12) RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Council accept and appropriate $251 780 in grant funds awarded by the 2011 Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) Grant Program to be used for the purchase of disaster preparedness equipment and training by the Police and Fire Departments. A 4/5ths affirmative vote is required to amend the budget. BACKGROUND: The City has been awarded grant funding from the 2011 Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI) Grant Program. The grant is administered through the United States Department of Homeland Security. This grant is essential for local preparedness. The City of Culver City is fortunate to be located within a region that was given funding priority by the Federal Government for the purpose of disaster preparedness and terrorism related event mitigation. In order to be eligible for UASI grant funding agencies must engage in projects that meet identified national state and local priorities and these projects are required to be regional in nature with multi jurisdictional and preferably multi disciplined benefits.
