RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the Civil Service Commission approve a new recruitment bulletin for Firefighter (Paramedic).

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

The Firefighter Paramedic position is responsible for firefighting; lifesaving and rescue services; fire inspection and prevention; and other fire services under the direction of a Fire Captain or Fire Marshal, depending on the assignment. The position may also be assigned to a fire response company either as a Firefighter, or Firefighter Paramedic, or to the Fire Prevention Division to function as a Fire Inspector.

Currently, the Fire Department sends Firefighters to paramedic school, which takes approximately seven (7) months. The development of a new job bulletin gives flexibility to hire individuals that already possess the Paramedic License and increases the number of Firefighter (Paramedics) current and future vacancies.

RECRUITMENT BULLETIN

We are submitting the proposed recruitment bulletin for approval in consideration of opening an open and competitive Firefighter (Paramedic) recruitment in March 2026.

AUTHORITY

The Commission's authority to approve new or revised recruitment bulletins is outlined in the Civil Service Rules (CSR) 6.4:
